New Blacksilver Baits angler Lewis Barrington came a respectable 3rd at Walters Lake in the South West today.
Fishing at 14.5m to an island paid off. Fishing in just 12" of water, Lewis started at dead depth but after foul hooking a few fish he shallowed up to 6" where he started to catch the carp. Pinging a few 6mm pellets into his swim and fishing pellet on the hook was working well.
As bites were becoming sporadic at 14.5m and after a few more foul hooked fish, Lewis switched his attention to the margin swim that he had been feeding. Dropping in some free offerings of meat regularly from the start of the match, he dropped his rig in and was straight away into fish. He concentrated the last couple of hours of the match in plundering this margin swim, resulting in a 3rd place with 91lb.
Lewis had lost or bumped off about 15 other fish, which inevitably cost him the match. First place caught 120lb only 29lb ahead if him. If they had been landed it could have been a close run for 1st place.
A good start to the season none the less, and Lewis is determined to improve. With our help we are sure he'll hit that 1st place regularly.
Welcome to the team Lewis!

Bream Success at Shearwater
Blacksilver Baits Angler Shane Lovell hit into the fish on a cold day at Shearwater in the West Country.
Water temperature was only 8 degrees but shane tempted the fish none the less, on a mix of 50% Black magik, 25% Big Carp Hi-Pro, and 25% River. Fishing either maggot or jelly pellet, and continually having to switch between the two hook baits to maintain bites, Shane landed a 4lb tench, an 8lb carp, and 48 bream between 2lb and 4lb.
Not a bad days work for a cold March day!
